ELI Units
There are three units at the ELI, namely Training & Testing, Graduate Studies, and Information & Publication.The ELI through its units provides a number of services and courses. All courses are taught at the ELI premises. The Information and Publication Unit supports the other two units by providing a library, a self-access learning facility and book supplies.
Training and Testing Unit
This unit is responsible for providing short training courses and administers proficiency tests to the public. The unit offers the following kinds of courses
General English Language Course for university graduates
Training courses for non-English teachers (Ministry of Higher Education)
Academic Writing for non-English University graduates
Communication courses
IELTS preparation course
TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) preparation course.
Graduate Studies Unit
The Graduate Studies Unit attempts to meet the graduates’ needs by providing professional and academic courses. It offers professional certificates and postgraduate programmes. These include:
Certificate of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (CTEFL) for English and non-English university graduates
Certificate of Teaching English to Young Learners (CTEYL) for English and non-English university graduates
Certificate of Teaching English Language with Technology (CTELT) for English and non-English university graduates
Certificate of English for Academic Purposes (CEAP) for non-English university graduates
Master of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MA TEFL) for English university graduates
Postgraduate Diploma in English as a Foreign Language.
Information and Publication Unit
This unit offers support to the learners in the other units. It is responsible for providing the students with the chance to have extra practice on their weaknesses through self-directed learning. It is also responsible for disseminating information and news of the ELI. The unit includes a library, Satellite TV viewing room, and a Self-access Centre (SAC) (see gallery).
